Diabetes and mental health – two of the greatest health challenges facing Canadians today – along with escalating dental fees, are putting pressure on group health benefit plans in the construction sector, say the September 2023 editions of ICBA’s B.C. Construction Monitor and ICBA Alberta’s Alberta Construction Monitor, both released today.
The data comes from various industry reports, and ICBA’s own analysis of the trends of ICBA’s own group health, dental and retirement benefit plans.
The report examines three significant cost drivers for group health plans, including diabetes treatment, escalating dental fees, and mental health claims. For example, mental health-related conditions account for the largest number of prescriptions on all ICBA benefit plans.
