At ICBA, we believe that strong advocacy is rooted in facts, sound economics, and an unwavering commitment to the prosperity of our members and the communities they help build. That’s why we’ve submitted a formal response to the CleanBC Review Panel, urging them to reconsider a climate policy that threatens to do serious damage to B.C.’s economy — especially construction.
Our submission is based on economic modelling by ICBA Chief Economist Jock Finlayson and Ken Peacock, which found that CleanBC will impose more than $109.7 billion in lost GDP by 2029 — a staggering hit that is 2.5 times worse than Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs.
This is a self-inflicted wound that could undermine job creation, drive up construction costs, and make it harder to deliver the housing, infrastructure, and energy projects British Columbians need.
In our submission, we make the case for climate policies that reduce emissions without sacrificing affordability, investment, or competitiveness. We support innovation and a lower-carbon future — but it must be achieved in a way that allows our economy to grow, not shrink.
