A recent Benefits Benchmarking report by The Conference Board of Canada shows some improvement in mental health benefits: 54.4% of organizations have increased their psychological health service coverage since the pandemic.
The report also shows that most companies (more than 90%) offer an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) and provide various support mechanisms like employee appreciation events, better equipment, and health and safety training.
There is still work to be done, of course. ICBA Benefits – our group health, dental and retirement benefits company – offers a number of plans and enhancement for employers looking to improve their coverage around mental health. This includes Health Care Spending Accounts, where people can allocate more dollars to specific services, and Wellness Spending Accounts, which have more flexibility in how they are used to enhance work-life balance.
There are options! Check out www.icbabenefits.ca for ideas and to contact one of our team reps.
Each week, ICBA’s Jordan Bateman reflects on what we’ve learned as we participate in ICBA’s Workplace Wellness Program. ICBA’s Workplace Wellness Program is helping more than 100 companies and more than 10,000 construction professionals better understand mental health. This program is free for all ICBA members – check out icba.ca/wellness for details.
