By any measure, Alberta is an energy powerhouse. In 2023, it produced 85% of Canada’s oil and accounted for three-fifths of the country’s natural gas output. In his latest ICBA Economics update, our Chief Economist, Jock Finlayson, highlights these impressive figures, showcasing Alberta as the beating heart of Canada’s energy sector. But it's not just about fossil fuels! Alberta is making strides in renewable energy, adding significant amounts of renewable power to its grid. With the completion of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion and innovations in hydrogen and geothermal energy, Alberta's energy future looks bright. 🌱💡Capital spending in Alberta’s energy industry hit $29.5 billion last year, driving private sector investment and benefiting the local construction industry. The Alberta Energy Regulator forecasts this to rise to about $40 billion by 2033. 📈🏗️Discover more insights from Jock on how Alberta’s dynamic energy landscape is fueling economic growth and supporting high-paying jobs.🔗 Read more at www.icbaindependent.ca/2024/08/13/icba-economics-alberta-is-canadas-energy-powerhouse/#ICBAEconomics #Alberta #EnergySector #EconomicGrowth #Canada

⌛️ Alberta’s core infrastructure is aging rapidly, with the province’s municipal infrastructure deficit now pegged at $30 billion, says the August 2024 edition of ICBA Alberta’s Construction Monitor, released today. The challenge is all the greater since Alberta’s infrastructure needs are growing. The province’s population is projected to reach 6.8 million people by 2045 – a nearly 40% growth rate over the next two decades, far exceeding the projected national growth rate of 22%. That will mean hundreds of thousands of new households and homes, and vastly increased infrastructure needs.“The urgency to act is getting greater by the day,” wrote ICBA Alberta President Mike Martens in his introduction to The Construction Monitor. “Solutions include speeding up approvals and permitting, more skilled trades training in high schools, and attracting more immigrants with construction trades. All of this will help us build more and build faster.”📉 Check out all the stats and the full Construction Monitor at icbaalberta.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/ICBA-Alberta-August-2024-Web.pdf
