The top-line numbers would lead one to believe that Canada saw strong economic growth in 2023 driven by population gains and consumer spending. But look deeper: real GDP per capita fell by 1.4%, a troubling sign.Western provinces like B.C. and Alberta led in GDP growth but faced similar declines per capita. ICBA’s Jock Finlayson breaks down the numbers here 👉 www.icbaindependent.ca/2024/11/14/icba-economics-a-look-back-at-the-economy-in-2023/#ICBAEconomics #CanadaEconomy #GDPGrowth

WELLNESS WEDNESDAY #176: Lest We ForgetRemembrance Day was Monday, and we thank all of our veterans and current Armed Forces members for their service to their country. Every freedom we have is due to the sacrifice these men and women have made.Veterans (and their families) face a distinct set of mental health challenges, whether they served in active combat or not. A lot of work has been done around Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), due to the very difficult things many veterans witness.Depression, loneliness and anxiety are also fairly common; and so is adjustment disorder – where soldiers work to transition from the highly structured and disciplined military life to being a civilian. If you, or someone you know, needs help, the Canadian government has set up a 24/7 hotline for veterans, former RCMP members, families and caregivers. Call 1-800-268-7708.And to all who serve, or have served: thank you. ------Each week, ICBA’s Jordan Bateman reflects on what we’ve learned as we participate in ICBA’s Workplace Wellness Program. ICBA’s Workplace Wellness Program has helped more than 100 companies and 15,000 construction professionals better understand mental health. This program is free for all ICBA members – check out icba.ca/wellness for details.

It's been a busy day as our very own Kerry Vital, Ally Bodnar and Jordan Bateman have been in downtown Vancouver at the Career Education Society of BC's annual conference. Kerry and Ally have been hosting a booth, meeting high school career counsellors from across B.C., sharing how ICBA and our members can help their students find incredible careers in the trades. Jordan stopped by in the afternoon to host a session connecting counsellors with four ICBA members -- Jo-Ann Scott of MAREX Constructors, Zeynip Ozdemir of Division 15 Mechanical Ltd., David Driver of Lincor Enterprises , and Ron Neuenfeldt of OZZ Electric Inc.They shared stories, answered questions and made great connections with these important and influential educators! This is one of dozens of events ICBA Training does every year to promote trades careers!
